![]() I wonder if those people are the same people. It seems like a lot of people have similar issues with nMage that they did with oHunter. That unified theory of fluff means that a lot of that fluff is used to justifying and explaining the Atlantean conceit, and how it relates to mages on the ground now. Mage: The Awakening assumes that there's a weird, unified Atlantean mythology about where magic comes from, and how mages become mages. But stay with me for a moment, and let's assume that Hunter: The Vigil is the "improved" hunter. Some might argue that it's simply different, and the designers wanted to take the Hunter concept in a different direction. Now one might argue that this new Hunter is the "improved" hunter. The main "conspiracy" of weird supernatural Messengers granting powers to Hunters is replaced by a fascinating melange of multiple conspiracies that sometimes do and don't know about each other. ![]() Hate it or love it, that flavor of fluff has definitely been amended and thrown away, more or less, by the new Hunter. Some felt that supernatural powers were necessary considering how beefy monsters were in the oWoD. Some people felt it was unnecessary, or that the introduction of supernatural powers made hunters less identifiably human. ![]() Some people found it rather wonky, and rather silly. ![]() In the original Hunter, it seemed like there was a lot of fluff dedicated to the origin of hunters, and the backstory that justifies where the crazy ass powers and the Conviction stat comes from. IT IS NOT OBJECTIVELY RIGHT OR WRONG, BUT RATHER JUST MY OPINION! DON'T EAT MY FACE! So here's a thought I just had about Mage: The Awakening and the new and old Hunter. ![]()
